Chosen Architect: Ron Arad

Ron Arad is the main contemporary architect that I've chosen to research. Some of his work involves the use of rectilinear forms as well as continuous curves throughout both exterior and interior architecture.

One of his projects, the 'Zion Square Sculpture' is a public space and sculpture for the Jerusalem landmark square. The project involves the amalgamation of many individual rectilinear elements to generate an almost digital/pixel  architecture in Zion Square. The architecture/sculpture becomes a focal point for gathering and a visual key to the many axes facing to it. The design features 400 irregular rectangular cylinders of different cross-sectional lengths and areas clumped together to form a sort of canopy or cover.

Another one of his projects, the 'Apartment Place des Vosges' is another similar architecture which uses rectilinear objects combined and arranged together to form a very unique curvaceous interior element. The design itself incorporates a kitchen, staircase and mezzanine. The design strategy for the project is based on a 3 dimensional circle that is broken and then stretched vertically all the while maintaining a visual reference to a 'center of gravity'.
